Blackheath Holiday Cabins

We got there at 2:30pm and found a very wet kitchen floor that smelled strongly of bleach. There was no linen for the second bedroom, and when it arrived we had to make the bed ourselves. The bathroom and kitchen both needed a proper clean and sanitizing. It was also hard to find the place because you’re looking for cabins, but they look like private homes. The kitchen has no exhaust fan, and there are no smoke alarms. Sadly, it fell short in every area.

The owners kept in excellent contact with us. We stayed in cabins 1 and 2, both of which were clean, tidy, and nicely presented. There’s a pleasant grassy area out front too. Fabulous cabins.

I was dreading the stay after reading the negative reviews, but I found the opposite and was very happy with it for the price. I’d happily come back. Just remember to pick up the keys from the New Ivanhoe Hotel. Cabin 3 had a firm bed with clean sheets, new carpet in the family room, and a clean BBQ that worked well, though the magpies helped finish the food. The air conditioning and electric blanket worked, there was plenty of hot water, and the bathroom looked recently refurbished. The oven, microwave, fridge, and TV all worked, with Sydney stations on the TV. It also looks like the outside is being painted, including the gutters, downpipes, barge boards, railings, and some walls. When I first walked in it smelled a little musty, but opening some windows aired it out. A few utensils and plates weren’t clean, so I washed them, which took five minutes. The kitchen highlight window was missing vertical blinds, so people in the cabin opposite could have looked into the kitchen and family room if they wanted. I tied up a string and hung a lightweight blanket there. The sofa bed sags in the middle, there are no flyscreens so that could be a problem in summer, and I reckon a $40 DVD player would be useful.

It’s basic, clean, tidy, and well priced. I’ve been coming every year for 20 years.
