Avaleen Lodge Motor Inn

We had everything we needed in a clean, nicely presented room, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was handy for the places we needed to get to. It's an affordable option for two nights, even if it isn't a five-star hotel, so I'm still giving it five stars.

I wouldn't recommend doing business with these owners. I called to book a two-bedroom suite and agreed on a price with the owner's wife. Her husband was beside her and confirmed it. About a minute later he rang back, said she didn't know the rates, and told me I'd have to pay more. I reminded him that she'd just confirmed the price with him in their native language, but he claimed he wasn't at the property then. I found the whole thing dishonest.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the room was tidy, clean and comfortable. Shops, food and a car charger are all nearby.

We booked because our one- and three-year-old children had gastro and were vomiting, and we needed somewhere clean for them to recover. The room wasn't ready at 2pm as it should've been. It was still being cleaned at 3:30pm while we were bringing our things in. Once we unpacked, we found cigarette butts in the ashtray, sticks and leaves on the veranda, a broken blind and broken kitchen skirting. There were dishes left on the sink, filthy dishcloths, stained and dirty floors, sand by the entry, an unvacuumed room and stair carpet, fingernails in the drawers, and a filthy ceiling fan. Management offered to send the receptionist back to clean, but with our children vomiting, we didn't want other people around in case they got sick too. The room should've been ready when we booked it. Management wasn't helpful.
