There’s lots of room to wander, and the kids have a nice playground. We paid $25 for a site with electricity and a shared bathroom. We arrived around 4 p.m. after visiting the giants of the valley and were lucky to get a powered spot. Pitch 3 worked with our cable, though pitch 4 may need an extension. At night we could hear frogs, so keep an eye out for wildlife. We spotted a snake on the road as we drove out in the morning.

The sites are flat, both the powered and unpowered ones, and it’s close to the water and other tourist spots. The shower and toilet were clean and good. There are only four powered sites, so arrive early.

We parked our motorhome on the big flat area below the lodges, which suited us well. It’s a picturesque spot, with bushland around most sides, a couple of dams, and a distant ocean view from our pitch. We didn’t mind paying $25 a night to stay in what is basically a sheep paddock. Nutkin Lodge Campground is ideal if you’re self-contained and don’t need power or water. Neville, the owner, is laid-back and checks around a few times each day. He may be able to help with power or water, so ask him. There are also three lodges to hire.

The natural lakes and forests make for a stunning, relaxing setting, with beautiful beaches and trails nearby. The cabins feel homely, are self-contained, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with everything you might need. Wonderful facilities in a lovely location. We’d highly recommend it and will definitely return.

After a dusty week in the bush, this was a welcome break. Our room was just right and presented really well, and the property is in an outstanding spot. It’s family-owned and run, with a good balance of helpful service and leaving you to enjoy your stay. You could easily base yourself here for a week and explore the area. Nutkin lodge should probably be called "mutts nutts " lodge. We’ll be back for sure, and would recommend it to anyone.
