The Capitol Apartments

Check-in was a mess. We arrived at 2:15pm, after the 2pm check-in time, and the receptionist couldn’t tell whether our room was ready or work it out. We went up to check ourselves, only to find it hadn’t been cleaned. By then it was 2:30pm. We asked for another room, but they couldn’t arrange one, so we had to go wait at a cafe and lost nearly an hour we’d paid for. We had an event to get ready for, and it threw off what was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon.

We wanted an apartment close to Suncorp Stadium, and this was great. We’ll be back.

The location worked really well for our group of five. We went to Suncorp Stadium one night and QLD Theatre Coy the next, and walked to Southbank during the day for cafes and restaurants. The bar downstairs was great. The unit had a couple of issues, though. The lighting was poor: the kitchen lights didn’t work, and the main room lights were so low-wattage that switching them on made little difference. The ensuite wall is clear glass. Even after 40 years of marriage, there are things you don’t need to see. Next time I’ll bring sheets of material to hang over it.

I booked through bookings.com and specifically asked for two single beds because I’m 60 and travelling with my 14-year-old grandson. We arrived at 1:30pm to find a tiny room with a double bed. Reception said they had no record of the request, and the cleaning staff had already gone home. I tried logging into the Wi-Fi several times without success, even though it’s supposed to be unlimited for up to five devices. We’ll have to go home tonight, and we won’t get any sleep. Very unhappy.
