Royal Exchange Hotel

It's a lovely little hotel, but I had a really unfortunate exchange with Carol at the front desk. I had several cases of expensive camera equipment and a late-afternoon flight, so I asked whether I could leave them somewhere secure. She first offered a spot behind a sofa in the lobby. I said I'd feel much better leaving them in the secure room behind reception, which the receptionist had offered at check-in. Carol very reluctantly said, “in there,” and pointed. As I brought more cases through, she denied making that offer and told me, “no you can’t, we’re working in here”. The room must have been about 10m by 10m. She wasn't working in there, she was watching TV. At checkout I asked her name and said, “I hope you own the place Carol because your management will be hearing about you”. As I carried my cases out, she muttered, “don’t you threaten me”.

The art deco setting for the continental breakfast was beautiful. The room had air conditioning, and the bathroom was awesome, with a deep bath. Really clean, friendly and well run. Highly recommended.

Great central spot for an overnight stay. The young woman at reception was friendly and really helpful. I liked the art deco feel, and the room was a good size, clean, with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was a bit small but did the job.

After three nights camping, this felt like a welcome oasis. The hosts were super kind and accommodating, and there was a great day lounge to relax in. For breakfast, The Silly Goat nearby is a must, and Salt Bush is truly amazing for dinner.
