Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa

I had a relaxing stay in the end, and the Ocean Pool was the highlight. Natalia was especially lovely, and rightly got employee of the month. If all you want is to read by the pool, you’ll have a great time. I know it was a quiet time of year, so I’m trying not to be too critical, but a few things left me unimpressed. A few days before arrival, Cable Beach Club called about my special occasion booking and offered an upgrade for $150 a night instead of $200. I’d never had a call like that and didn’t appreciate being asked to spend more during my work week. I politely declined and said I’d keep my original room, but they pushed the offer a second time. It left a bad taste. The room was fine, but the shower was dirty and smelled, and there was no hot water at all for about the last two days. The fridge also became waterlogged overnight, through no fault of mine, and I had to throw away about $70 worth of nice cheese, yogurt, and snacks. The $5 bus/airport issue has been discussed a lot, but they don’t seem to be listening, which is their choice. Room service knocking at 8:30am was too early for me. Construction was much bigger than I’d expected and made the sunset bar very quiet, though that isn’t their fault.

The car park gets busy around sunset, so it’s smart to arrive early. Some people may also find the four-wheel-drive vehicles on the beach distracting. Those are small things, though, in a beautiful coastal spot. Cable Beach is 22 kilometers of white sand beside the turquoise Indian Ocean, and it’s a must-do in Broome. The sunset is the big draw, with gold, orange, and red across the sky as the sun drops below the horizon. You can watch from the sand, from a nearby bar like the Sunset Bar and Grill, or on one of the camel rides, whose silhouettes along the shore are spectacular. We came away with wonderful memories, though our photos don’t do the sunset justice. The beach never felt too crowded, and it lived up to its reputation as a classic Broome experience.

It was quiet and relaxing, probably because we were there very late in the season. CBC had excellent facilities, including a pool reserved for adults. The council’s beachside renovations made access to the beach a little difficult, but the choice of restaurants and other places to eat was very good, and the food was excellent.

The rooms were very nice and the hotel was comfortable. Cable Beach construction was underway when I posted, so the views were affected and it could get dusty. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, which is why I gave four stars. One day the food tasted good, but supplies kept running low and bay marines didn’t seem to keep it warm. The next day it was tasty again, with the same problems.
