The White House

There’s plenty to do at the house even on a quiet day, with board games, books, DVDs, beach toys and a massage chair. The giant decks look out over the ocean and valley, with nearly 180-degree views across that corner of the island. Four of the five large bedrooms open onto the decks, and the main bedroom has an ensuite and a huge walk-in closet. Upstairs there’s another bathroom with spa jets, as well as a jacuzzi on the lower deck. The big kitchen has two coffee machines, and there’s a BBQ, sauna and steam bath. With five bedrooms and three bathrooms, it works well for big groups or anyone after a bit of luxury and a relaxing atmosphere. Rael, Tima and the staff took great care of us. Thanks for making our stay even better.

The house has almost everything you need, even a car, but I couldn’t find a wooden spoon. Food options on the island are limited and even supermarket groceries are pretty expensive, so it’s handy to have a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ. I’d suggest packing packaged meat and dry goods. Fresh fruit and vegetables can’t be brought onto the island, but seasonal produce is available at reasonable prices from places around Norfolk, including the honour stalls outside local homes. There are two saunas, a huge jacuzzi and a second-storey veranda overlooking the valley and ocean. It’s one of the best places to stay on Norfolk Island. Tima, Raul and the housekeeping staff made us feel very welcome. I have so many good things to say about their hospitality that I’d need to write a book. We’ll be back.

The views from the sweeping balconies are stunning, and there’s space for everyone. It’s a fantastic self-catering holiday house with large bedrooms and bathrooms, a huge kitchen with everything you need, a spa and two saunas. I’ll return.
