We had a great time at Abbey Beach, especially once we found out there was a squash court and rackets to hire. I hadn't played in years, but I had a brilliant five-set match with my son, who was trying squash for the first time. Such a fun bit of entertainment. All in all, a pretty happy stay at ABR.

The room's condition made the stay even harder. The bath spa had spiders in it, which frightened our kids, and the room didn't feel clean. Our one-year-old found a dead mosquito by the sliding window and put it in her mouth. That's completely unacceptable. The supposed upgrade had two separate sleeping rooms but only one air conditioner, in the living area. Nobody asked whether the children could sleep separately, and we all ended up squeezing into one bed so they could be beside us. We arrived around 8 PM after a tiring three-hour drive with the kids, expecting to check into the room we'd booked and had confirmed. Instead, staff said it wouldn't fit our family and insisted we upgrade for an extra charge. It was late, the kids just wanted to sleep, and we felt we had no choice but to pay. When I asked the staff member's name, he refused to tell me. We asked about cancelling, but were told the booking was non-refundable. This was our first stay at Abbey Beach Resort in Busselton, and definitely our last. What should have been a relaxing weekend became stressful and unpleasant, and our weekend was ruined. The hotel showed no consideration for a family arriving late after a long drive. We won't return or recommend it to family or friends.

The location is five-star, but the rooms badly need an upgrade. There was thick mould between the spa and shower, heavy carpet stains, a phone that didn't work, and the bed linen wasn't changed during our six-day stay. We were told at check-in that they were short-staffed. How does that become the paying guests' problem? At $400 a night, perhaps management should lower the rate to reflect the poor service. Then, late on Christmas Eve, the Bureau of Meteorology warned us to leave our house because of threatening fires. We went straight to reception to say we might need to check out early while we waited for an update. They said there'd be no refund if we left early, and offered no voucher for another date. We were also told we'd still be charged for that night's restaurant meal because the chefs had started preparing it. It was a smorgasbord, and it was already late afternoon. I would hope preparations had begun anyway, and I don't see how two fewer people would affect the food. The front desk staff, including the manager, gave the same answer, “It’s our policy,” to everything, with no empathy at all. Thankfully the fire was downgraded and under control, so we didn't have to leave. We would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

Right on the beach, with clean rooms, a comfy bed, and pleasant pools. There's also a very nice restaurant in the lobby with great food. For what it costs, the hotel was well worth visiting. I'd recommend this resort to anyone staying in Busselton.

We had a lovely stay in November in their two-room suite. The view was gorgeous, the rooms were comfortable, and the staff were kind and professional. Breakfast was lovely, and there's both an indoor and an outdoor pool. We were surprised by how reasonable the price was. Thanks, Abbey Beach!
