Azur Byron Bay

I stayed in the Wreck Villa and loved it. The place was kept to a very high standard, and the hosts and staff were so delightful that I felt at home, almost like part of their family by the end 😄 It's also ideally located for getting into town and to the local beaches. The location was good, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. We'd booked because the spa pool was shown in all the pictures and was the main reason for choosing the place, but it had been removed. Our toilet broke and wasn't properly fixed. The rooms felt quite damp, and there was nowhere to dry towels. They weren't replaced daily, so we were left with wet towels the whole time, which was gross.

This felt like a glorified backpackers. There were mini cockroaches in the villa, crumbs all over the floor, rotted fruit in the kitchen, mould in the shower and a smelly shower curtain. The shower setting between the waterfall and wall heads barely worked, and the hand wash and body wash pumps didn't work properly, so we had to buy our own. The old fridge froze our lunches, dinners, fruit and drinks. We had to take out our own rubbish, and the pool wasn't cleaned regularly. The pool cleaner was left out, half in the pool, for all 10 days I was there. You have to connect your own Netflix, too, and nobody was ever at reception. There was no privacy. The owners or management live there, and their smoking came into the villa. When I asked about it, I got shrugs and was told I'd just have to shut my windows. Staff's kids and their friends roamed around using foul language. I could never nap, sleep in or rest because staff yelled to each other across the property, slammed doors and revved cars at 7am every day. It felt like they had no respect for people who'd travelled and paid to have a break. If the other reviews were true, they haven't dealt with the problems. The place has just been sold, which may explain why the current owners clearly don't give a shit. I hope the next owners are better, and that the current owners do better wherever they go next.

The room was modern, clean and peaceful, and the thoughtful touches added to the warm atmosphere. My mum and I came from Melbourne, and from the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. They were incredibly accommodating and helped make the stay relaxed and stress-free. Everything was close by, with cafes, shops and the beach just minutes away, so it was easy to explore Byron Bay. We'll definitely return and recommend Azur Byron Bay to friends and family. Thanks for such a memorable stay!
