Being right on the beachfront in Byron Bay is hard to beat, and the location is outstanding. But for the high price, the experience was disappointing. The apartment still works, though the kitchen and bathroom are dated, the décor feels cheap and tired, and the once-white furniture is yellowing. I remember it looking more stylish, with wooden floors and a decorative surfboard that gave it a Ralph Lauren surf-shop vibe. For a property marketed under the Quiksilver brand, the worn-out interior and the rates being charged don’t match. Sleep was another problem. There’s a bar across the street playing music until 1AM, loud enough to make the walls shake, so it was nearly impossible to sleep. And checking out at 10AM felt far too early, especially with guests expected to leave the place clean. I know 10AM checkouts are somewhat standard in Australia, but a later time would make more sense for a property like this. Given its name, price, and unbeatable location, I expected much better quality. It falls short.

The location was great, but our bathroom door lock failed on the first night and trapped one of us inside. The handle had been difficult to use since we arrived, and the door was already hard to open. A locksmith came the next day without the parts needed to fix it and said he’d return three days later. We stayed for 12 nights and never saw him again. Even more disappointing, the owners didn’t call to let us know what was happening. The apartment was expensive, and we wouldn’t usually mind paying that much, but the bathroom door never worked properly during our stay. There was also a hole where the lock had been, so you could see someone using the toilet. After this, I probably won’t return. I expected better service for the price.

I felt the price was far too high, $3500 for 5 nights in my opinion. A tree blocked our view, the bedding was dirty, and there were only two towels per bedroom with no extras. The fridge was small, and the kitchen was tiny, with no oven and just two hot plates. The outdoor bins were full with no space for our rubbish, and the balcony doors were extremely hard to open.

The accommodation was very comfortable, with a lovely balcony for sitting and watching the world go by. The beach is across the road, and pubs, great cafes, and restaurants are right on the doorstep. The pub noise was quite loud, though it didn’t bother us.

There was heavy mold on the ceilings and the bedroom and bathroom walls, plus some on one of our pillows. The place also had a strong damp smell that didn’t seem right. We felt unwell after staying there. Kerry confirmed there was mold but said there was nothing to worry about. After months of dealing with Kerry, who was very hard to reach and wouldn’t return calls, it took months for us to get only some of our money back. I strongly recommend people avoid staying there for their own health and safety.
