Globetrotters International Backpackers

I had two lovely days here. The kitchen setup is great: everyone has their own fridge locker and kitchen equipment, so you know your plates and pans are clean and nobody eats your food. It also makes the kitchen easier to keep tidy. Breakfast was enough, and if you get there at the right time you can even have pancakes. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our bathroom wasn’t clean once, but I let reception know and someone came to sort it out quickly. I’d definitely stay again.

The only downside was the Pharaoh Ant problem. Keep food in the fridge or those tiny, 1mm ants will soon be all over it. I don’t blame the hostel, since they’re impossible to get rid of and harmless. The rest of the place was incredibly clean, with organized fridges and your own secure box in them. There are three kitchens, plus showers and bathrooms all over. The pool is great, and there are plenty of spots to lie down and relax. It’s a really chill, relaxing place with friendly, laid-back staff and lots of perks.

We always liked that Globetrotters International was a quiet hostel with no partying, drugs or smoking. When we stayed in December last year, the staff were friendly, breakfast was included and the facilities were clean. This December, though, the place smelled strongly of marijuana and cigarettes throughout our stay. We’d booked a double but were given two singles; that was eventually fixed. They also gave us a “master key” that supposedly opened every room, although it could barely open ours. It made me question how seriously guest safety and security were taken. We checked the door three times whenever we left, yet twice we came back to find it unlocked and could open it with a gentle push. I had other concerns, but that was the main one. I wanted to give the property a chance to respond before reviewing, but they said we must have left the door unlocked ourselves. Excellent customer service.

The owner is amazing, really friendly, and helped me find a good option in a comfortable room when I decided to extend my stay, even though they were busy. I loved the place and totally recommend GLOBETROTTERS INTERNATIONAL!!!!! The sheets were immaculate, the bathrooms clean, and it’s not a party hostel. I especially liked the locked boxes inside the fridge for keeping food separate. I’ve had bad experiences at other hostels where someone could take my food.
