Be careful to document every conversation and maintenance request in writing if you rent here. If you’re staying on holiday, photograph everything as soon as you arrive. I’m sharing this based on what happened to an elderly woman and her family, who cared for her and rented here for eight years. The first few years were good, but the last three ended in 2021 and were hell. They faced no maintenance, recurring mould, and broken air conditioning and appliances that were part of the rental agreement. These caused health problems, including trouble storing lifesaving insulin. The carpet was already at least eight years old when they moved in. When the woman, then 78 and dying, moved out to be nearer extended family, management tried to make her pay to replace it. The rental tribunal rejected that. She paid rent on time, and cleaners were regularly provided by veteran's affairs for the war widow. Her carer raised concerns about mould, the smell and health effects. At the nastiest tribunal mediation, management tried to make further false accusations against the tenant. Not long afterward, the woman died. The stress did not help during the last four months of her life, and the whole ordeal made life hell for her family and extended family. Management put them through hell over work that should have been done throughout the tenancy.
