The room was spacious and had the basic things we needed, including a TV and small appliances. The bed was very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was okay, though the water pressure was a bit low, the drainage wasn't great during my stay, and the overhead exhaust fan didn't work. I tried the in-house restaurant for convenience and really enjoyed the Aussie Parmigiana. Staff were polite and helpful. Mantra Hobart Airport, formerly Travelodge, is near the airport, but it's about a 1.5km walk on a narrow path. There may be an airport shuttle at certain times; otherwise, you'll need Uber, since SkyBus doesn't stop nearby and is only accessible via the Airport Terminal. Even though it's outside Hobart CBD, I thought it was good value. I used Uber without any trouble. A non-peak trip is about $25 and takes around 20 minutes.

The rooms were cheaper when this was Travelodge, and Booking.com rewards members could get a discount then. There are no benefits now, and I won't be back at $200/n. If all you need is somewhere to sleep close to the airport, it works, but I've stayed twice since the changeover and haven't been impressed. On my first visit the room smelled, there was hardly any tea or coffee until the next day, and I found a long dark hair on the soap shelf. I tried calling room service to order a meal, but nobody answered or returned my voicemail. On my second visit the room was fine and the kitchenette well stocked, but the curtains and blinds had rips. The meal tasted good but the portion was too small.

The menu was very limited and hadn't changed in over 18months. I expected better from Mantra and was told by staff about cost cutting. This was really disappointing for tourists, and they'll need to do better. It was much better when Travelodge owned it, and I won't stay here again. I booked two weeks and wasn't told that long-stay rooms are serviced only every three days. There were no signs about it, and nobody mentioned it when I booked. On day 2 I returned to find the room hadn't been serviced, with the sign still on the door. It happened again on day 4. The room safe didn't work and there was no hairdryer. The TV had no local channels; I asked to change rooms, but nothing happened.

For a late arrival and early departure, this might be okay. But for the price, I expected better comfort and service. The room was very basic with hardly any amenities; it was fairly clean, and Wi-Fi was the only feature. There wasn't even a phone in the room. I had to ask for housekeeping each time, since it wasn't provided by default. I was quite disappointed. Hopefully management takes the feedback on board.

We booked an “executive king” room, flew to Hobart and arrived at the hotel at 11:50 pm. After getting a key card from reception, we walked in to find someone already in the room. He greeted us in his jocks, and we headed straight back downstairs. The woman at reception apologised and said they were booked out. It was already after midnight. I'd booked a room, and it wasn't my problem to solve. We weren't going to sleep on the street. After a long back and forth, she went up and cleaned a “standard” room for us. It was disgusting: hair strands and stains on the bedsheet, a wet towel in the shower, and a dirty floor. We went to sleep in our outdoor clothes. The next morning, the guy at reception couldn't even say hi. How does someone without basic social skills work at the reception of a “4-star” hotel? We got our refund and won't come back!
