I’ve stayed at Park Hyatt properties in Sydney, Seoul, Kyoto, the USA and Europe, and this is one of my favourites. The grounds have a distinctive ranch-style layout, with gardens and several lounges. Inside, the hardwood floors and decorative walls and ceilings give it a 1920s elegance. It’s a beautiful place to get married. I’m a fan of breakfast buffets and really liked this one. The hotel also has an official dog owned by the manager, and it’s precious.

I stayed twice in one week, and both visits were genuinely stunning. The consistency really stood out. It’s easy to impress once, but coming back a few days later to the same great experience says a lot. The design and atmosphere work beautifully, the rooms are comfortable and well done, and they feel more like a high-end private space than a typical hotel room. One of the best hotels I’ve visited. If you’re in Canberra, it’s an easy choice.

I’ve been back many times over the years and it never disappoints. The rooms and bathrooms are big, there are good spaces throughout the hotel, and most of the rooms I’ve stayed in get nice natural light. Staff are always friendly and relaxed. It’s a quiet location that works well for walks around the nearby lake or trips to the galleries and museums. The restaurant does a good breakfast, and on this stay I had a really nice, well-grilled steak for dinner.

The staff were friendly and the service was good, so I have no complaint about them. But the High Tea itself was a real disappointment, especially at $85 per person. Our group of four came to the Hyatt on 26/2/2026 for a tradition we’ve enjoyed for years, catching up as old friends who live in different areas. We used to look forward to the hot food, cucumber sandwiches, lovely cakes, and fluffy scones with raspberry jam and cream. This time we shared one three-tier stand of cold food. There were a few small cakes on top, then hard, very salty scones with something like runny apricot jam and cream. The bottom tier had bland rectangular sandwiches with creamy fillings and no cucumber ones in sight. The Prosecco was cheap-tasting and rather tart, and there was very little food. It saddens me to say this, because the Hyatt is such a beautiful hotel. It feels like they’re cutting corners while charging more for less, trimming things back to save a few dollars instead of making the experience memorable. We won’t continue our High Tea tradition at the Hyatt this year and will find somewhere else.

The staff were lovely and clearly did their best, and the food tasted delicious. Still, for $330, the Valentine’s Day “under the stars” dinner was disappointing. We didn’t stay at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The portions were tiny. The main was one beef medallion cut in half, three carrots, and about two handfuls of salad for two people. One of the five courses was a ping pong ball sized scoop of sorbet. When it ended around 9:30, we still didn’t feel full and went out for another dinner at about 10pm. The meal took roughly three and a half hours, with waits of around 40 minutes between courses. It was meant to finish at 8:30pm, but our mains still hadn’t arrived, so the musician they’d hired packed up and left at that time. We’d really wanted to enjoy the evening, but it didn’t quite hit the mark given the price.
