Hunter Valley Motel

The shower was a highlight: plenty of hot water and pressure, with a good showerhead. The room also had lots of pillows, a microwave and hairdryer, and the air conditioning worked well and was so quiet I forgot to switch it off. Even with a fairly busy road nearby, the room itself was super quiet. It was clean and comfortable, and reception were friendly even though I arrived at the last minute. One of the best nights I’ve had in a motel, and an underrated gem. Sorry, guys, for leaving the A/C running. It was so quiet I forgot! 🙃

We left the rooms clean and tidy, so I’m waiting to hear why the accommodation cancelled our booking on Booking.com after we spoke with them. That cancellation meant we couldn’t leave a review there, and we’ll chase up how to post this honest account so other people don’t end up frustrated and disappointed. I’d look elsewhere. We had no hot water. When I raised it with the owner, they said there were two hot water services and maybe everyone else had used it all. We paid for a room with a shower for a reason. The night was cool, but the bedding was light, and we couldn’t use the air conditioning because it rattled so badly the front panel fell off, exposing a putrid filter. It was also too loud to sleep. In our second room, a towel had been rolled up and stuffed into a gap above the window. The rooms are very dated, the bathroom felt like a caravan park, and there was an odd smell. Staff didn’t seem to care that the services we paid for weren’t provided. We’ll never stay here again. DODGY!!!

At these prices, this is a bloody disgrace. Paint was peeling off the ceiling, and getting to the bathroom meant stepping over a bed that was a trip hazard. Its base was perishing, with long plastic strands coming out. The whole bathroom had mould, and some tiles were missing or broken.

The only nice thing about our stay was the painting on the wall. We were glad we only had to spend one night here. Avoid this dump. The room was abhorrent even for a budget motel. There were cockroaches, and the fridge didn’t work and smelled of off milk. The kettle kept boiling until I switched it off myself. The blankets were stained, and the shelf was nearly coming off the wall. The wardrobe was dirty with mud and grass inside. The bathroom was disgusting. I felt dirtier after the shower, and it clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly in a while. The hot water was warm at best, and an empty shower gel dispenser was lying on the floor when we arrived. The bathroom door was broken, barely on its track, and very hard to pull shut.
