Hoey Moey Backpackers - Hostel

We came for dinner recently, and while the barramundi was amazing, with crunchy skin and a moist centre, the rest was a mixed bag. The salt and pepper squid was okay, though I've had much better elsewhere. My friend ordered medium rare steak, but it was pretty rare in the middle. The staff were rude and the place felt really unwelcoming. When I asked one staff member for another's name, they came back saying they weren't allowed to give out staff names. So strange. They also said pubs in NSW can't do double shots. Lol, no, it's just your pubs making weak cocktails and ripping people off. Save your money, get normal spirits as single shots. The cocktails are weak and not worth the price. I won't waste my money here again!

The pub was lovely, with delicious food and great music. It has everything you'd want in a good pub, including a big dining area and roomy bar areas. It's just a few steps to a quiet beach, and the rooms were peaceful too, with no music noise. Clean and comfortable, with great customer service everywhere. I'd definitely go back to the pub. I would've given five stars, but the bathroom was a tight squeeze.

The live singer was fantastic and really made the night, and the atmosphere was unreal. The staff were all so lovely. The food took a long time and tasted very average, but for the vibe, drinks and live music, it's still worth going.

I'm so glad I ignored the negative recommendations and went in for a meal. The food was delicious. I had comfy duck, and although the potato mash was a bit dry, the rest was spot on and tasty. The strawberry Sundae is a must to finish with. Drink service was extremely slow. I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail and it took forever. The guy making cocktails seemed to be reading all the ingredients and didn't know the products well. There was only one staff member making drinks, which slowed things down too. Other than that, the place was clean and the food came in a timely manner. I'd highly recommend it to anyone on the fence about eating there.
