Daintree Village is beautiful, with loads of birds and animals, and a feel that reminded me of Ireland meeting Costa Rica. Red Mill House has cozy, quaint rooms, and Tina and Jim were some of the friendliest, most engaging people I’ve met on my travels. As we drove down the quiet road, I kept wondering what we’d find, and the welcome made the place even better. Tina recommended the river tour, and I’d say to make time for it. I can’t wait to visit again, and highly recommend Tina and Jim and the place.

Red Mill House feels like a wildlife haven, tucked up in the trees. It’s a lovely spot for birdwatching or just unwinding in nature, away from everyday life. Tina and Jim welcomed us right away and were incredibly hospitable throughout. Our room was clean and well equipped, and there are lots of places to see nearby. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

Breakfast on the upstairs veranda was delicious and generous, with local fruit where possible. The rooms are comfortable, and both hosts know the area and birds really well. Their contacts for arranging local excursions were very reliable. We’ve stayed at Red Mill House several times, and if you love birds, it’s the place for you. It’s an isolated setting, within walking distance of the Daintree River, and about a 1.5-hour drive from Cairns.

Holly and her mother were warm, generous hosts, with loads of local natural history knowledge. We spent two nights focused on nature viewing, especially birds, and enjoyed the healthy, delicious breakfasts and free good coffee. After we left, I realized I’d forgotten a small dental device worth over $500 in the room. When I called, they offered, and even insisted, on mailing it back to the USA for free. They followed through, saving me more than the whole cost of my stay. That kind of above-and-beyond generosity really stood out. I’d recommend the place to birders, nature lovers, or anyone after a quiet, comfortable escape. We also saw Cassowaries in Daintree Park!

Tina was an amazing host and gave impeccable service. The forest setting was incredible, the home-cooked brekki was lovely, and our bed was super comfy. We had the best night’s sleep and the best time at Red Mill House. We’ll definitely be back.
