Courtyard By Marriott Darwin

I've stayed here several times while I was in NT, and I've always enjoyed it. The front desk staff are welcoming, smiling and helpful. The waterfront is a bit of a walk in the wet season, though who wants to walk in heavy rain anyway? That wouldn't put me off choosing this place.

I was here on a business trip in the off season, and the stay was mixed but pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made a good first impression. The on site restaurant was quiet and had a lovely view of the pool, a relaxing place during the day. The gym was also well equipped for a hotel. My Level 1 room was spacious and clean, but quite dark with little natural light. The bed was the main downside, lumpy and uncomfortable enough to make a decent night's sleep difficult. On the plus side, the bathroom was spotless and stocked with good quality amenities. The services and facilities were good, but this wasn't the best Courtyard by Marriott I've stayed in.

The rooftop gym was a highlight, with modern equipment and wide city views, and we also enjoyed the pool and its loungers as a break from the Territory heat. D Bar & Restaurant serves seasonal Australian food, and breakfast had plenty of fruit and choice. Staff brought that warm Territory welcome too, helping with things like late check-outs and local tour ideas. The hotel sits right in Darwin’s CBD on Smith Street, within walking distance of Mitchell Street dining and nightlife, the Esplanade, Crocosaurus Cove and Smith Street Mall. Our room felt fresh and comfortable, with good bedding, crisp sheets and strong air conditioning. Wi-Fi, smart TVs and workstations make it workable for business, and some rooms look over the city or Cullen Bay. The Courtyard by Marriott Darwin City has recently been refreshed and rebranded, and felt relaxed while still polished. It worked for a family trip as well as for business.

Really good value, and the staff were so nice. A couple of hours after check-in we had trouble with the air conditioning, but they happily moved us to another room. The location is handy too, just a few minutes’ walk from everything on Mitchell Street.
