The grounds make this feel like a real escape, with mature gardens, native bushland and local wildlife around the outdoor areas. It’s peaceful and private, even though Daylesford’s cafés, restaurants, bars, library, boutiques, shops and pubs are only minutes away. Lake Daylesford is close too, as are Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens and Hepburn’s mineral springs. Inside, the architectural home mixes modern comforts with rustic touches, artwork and distinctive furniture. It has a homely feel and would suit a couple, family or group of friends looking to relax.

We were disappointed by the state of the outdoor areas when we arrived, and there was no welcome box, which we’ve had at a less expensive place. The beds had no mattress protectors, and I wasn’t comfortable with the bedding’s hygiene or the home’s cleanliness. That matters to us, especially at this nightly price. The house is spacious, with good-sized bedrooms, and the washing machine was good. But the lighting is so dim throughout that cooking wasn’t really an option, and there was barely anything in the pantry. There’s no washing line either. I probably wouldn’t recommend it or return.

Being near the town centre was a real plus. We stayed four nights for Chillout Festival, and the house had nice spaces and was generally well equipped. It was very dark inside, though. The dark timber adds to that feeling, and there aren’t enough lights; the ones provided are low wattage. With just one pendant in the kitchen, doing any proper cooking was difficult. We also found all the glassware dirty and had to wash it before using it.
