After finishing a section of the Bibbulmun Track, we spent two lovely nights here as a family. The cottage had what we needed, including soft beds, hot showers, and a nice little fireplace. It was just right after a week on the track. We had arranged to leave our car there while we were away for the week, which was very helpful and much appreciated.
We found the cabins very relaxing, tucked under the trees just a few minutes from Denmark. The shops and coast are handy to reach, though not within walking distance. The kitchen has enough to cook up some local produce, and even includes a pasta pot.
This was a disappointing stay, and the chalet wasn't as advertised. Before arriving, I received at least six emails with rules and instructions, which I followed, but the arrival details still didn't work: my name wasn't on the board, and the keys weren't in the door as I'd been told. The chalet was much smaller than expected. The dishes and cutlery were filthy, the tiny bar fridge had pieces breaking off, and its freezer was completely iced up. The owners and their guests ignored us whenever we said hello. On Saturday night, the owners' guests parked in a way that blocked us in, despite our allotted parking spot. The couch and beds were extremely uncomfortable and clearly hadn't been upgraded in decades. The TV did work, and there were lots of books and DVDs available. Overall, it was a letdown. There are plenty of other places to stay in the area.
The cottage had everything we needed inside, and we loved its clean, cozy feel. The scenery is beautiful, and the courtyard was a lovely spot for dinner outside. I was impressed by the natural products used as part of the experience. Gum Grove is a wonderfully welcoming, family friendly place where children can feel safe, and the adults we met were so warm. Meegan and Brett were kind hosts who made us feel at home. It was a beautiful way to experience Denmark, and we're already looking forward to coming back regularly. Thanks so much for all the love you've put into making guests' stays feel wholesome.
Our kids were delighted by the toys and DVD collection, and we all felt at home. The newly refurbished kitchen was a dream to cook in, and the beds were so comfortable I'd love to know where the queen mattress came from. Meegan and Brett have made the cottage a cozy, modern space with a whimsical nod to Australian heritage, and it had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. It was memorable, and we've already recommended Gum Grove to friends and family. We can't wait to return. For context, they took over in late 2021 and have clearly worked hard to turn the place around. I had seen the poor reviews from before then, so those TripAdvisor reviews up to 2021 don't reflect what the space is like now. It's also the best value accommodation in the Great Southern.
