One of a Kind Apartments

We spent six weeks at One of a Kind Apartments and were so glad we chose it. The grounds were lovely, the apartment was VERY clean, and all the staff were friendly and attentive. It was also great being close to so many good, affordable restaurants. We’d definitely come back if we’re in Canberra again!!!

After finding One of a Kind online, I booked straight with the owner. The flat was beautiful, spacious, pretty and clean, and set back from the main road so it was very quiet. I’ve stayed in lots of different places in Canberra over the years, and finally found my 'home away from home'. Thank you, One of a Kind.

The kitchen was well equipped, and we had everything we needed during our stay. The location and facilities were good, and the beds were comfortable, though the pillows weren’t great. The shower pressure was pretty poor as well. We’d stay again, but bring our own pillows.

“One of a kind” is right, just not my kind. The living area was spacious and the place was clean, but for the price I expected better quality and a bit of luxury. The apartment is also marketed as an AirBNB, yet there were no breakfast cereals, and no milk for the tea bags. When I mentioned the milk, the managers apologised but didn’t offer to get any or reimburse me if I bought some myself. No Telstra mobile coverage inside my unit either. Lots of little things made the stay feel shabby. The pillows, which reviews complained about two years ago, still seemed unreplaced. The cutlery and crockery were a random Op Shop mix, the ironing board foam had worn away so I was ironing over its metal frame, and the towels and bedding felt old and worn. The wine glasses were tiny and looked straight out of the 70s. There were no tissues, and no dryer for overnight washing. I get the eco preference for air drying, but guests sometimes need appliances to fit their schedule. It’s not the worst place I’ve stayed, but those other places cost much less, so I expected the price here to come with better finishes and quality. Think I’m making it up? I took photos. So many small fixes could lift this from poor to excellent, if the owners or managers would pick up their game. An enormous disappointment, and I wouldn’t come back or suggest anyone put themselves through it.
