Maroochy River Bungalows

The location by Maroochy River is the main draw, and the grounds are lovely, with plenty of birdlife, picnic tables and a B.B.Q area. The bungalows have a small balcony and a full kitchen, plus a queen bed in the bedroom and a single in the lounge, which can be made up as another single. Linen and towels were clean and fresh, there’s a decent TV with YouTube and Netflix, free Wi~Fi when it works, and a dining table with four chairs. The tiny fridge freezer is a drawback, though. Ice cream won’t stay frozen in it. Expect a lot of activity on weekends. Boats start up in front of the cabins before 7am, and there can be people fishing, kayaking, canoeing, the local rowing club, car doors slamming and loud conversations. If you’re a light sleeper, ask whether kids or school camps will be there, since it’s also a camp. The TV doesn’t work when it rains, either. Coles is about 9km away up fisherman Rd, and Maroochydore’s shopping centres are around 15 minutes away. Sports grounds are close, with beaches all along the coast. You can take river cruises or hire boats, kayaks and bait. There’s a pub on the road into the bungalows, and Bli Bli has the big Waterpark. Sunday Markets are two minutes away over the bridge on Fisherman's Rd. Chambers Island is close too, over a footbridge, with amenities and shady spots, though lots of people fish there. The receptionists were lovely and gave us a warm welcome. A really great place to stay, five stars.

The bungalow was so grotty and smelly that we kept the windows and door open day and night, but it still reeked. There was mold on the ceiling, the main light didn’t work, the cabinets had been patched with sheet metal, and the fan couldn’t be used because its control panel had been removed from the wall. It badly needs a deep clean and an update. I can’t see how this place got such high ratings. The door sticker says they aim for a five star stay, but this felt like one star accommodation. I would never come back.

It suited our needs well as self-contained accommodation. The cabin at the back was very quiet, away from the main road, and the location worked for us since Eudlo was only a 20 minute drive away.

For the price, it’s clean and basic, probably about what you get these days. But the air conditioner was completely useless. I reported it and no fix was offered. There were no handrails, the under bench fridge was tiny, the fan had no adjustment button, and the can opener was old and useless. I’m sharing this in good faith for both the operators and future guests.
