The grounds give you plenty of space and privacy, even though Dongara's centre is only about two minutes away. We’re staying in the rail carriage, which feels like a genuinely unusual, once-in-a-lifetime place to sleep. It’s sparkling clean inside and across the whole property. The service has been excellent too, and everyone is easy to communicate with. Nothing seems like too much trouble.

The gardens are beautiful, and the amenities are excellent. We had a family room in the main house and shared facilities, all clean and comfortable, with a homely feel. We were travelling with a very energetic 18 month old and worried we’d be “that noisy room,” but we seemed to do OK. The location is great, with plenty of conveniences nearby. A lovely little place that’s clearly well kept and well loved. Thank you ❤️

I turned up at 22:30 after booking at the last minute, expecting only to get a bed for the night. Instead, I was offered a choice of rooms so I could pick the one I liked, and treated with real care and warmth. It made a rushed booking feel memorable. The Ghan room was comfortable and nice, and the utilities were clean and inviting. I’d definitely recommend it and will probably come back.

We picked a carriage room from the different accommodation options. It was cosy and comfortable, with quaint, distinctive furnishings that made it feel warm. The people were very friendly, and there’s lots of room to unwind in the gardens.

I finally got to stay in a railway carriage, something I’d wanted to do for ages. I had the whole carriage to myself and chose a compartment with two bunk beds. It was spotless, cosy and comfortable. The place felt more like an Airbnb, especially when I got to share a relaxed glass of red with Susie and her friendly pooch Gypsy. What a gem. Why stay anywhere else?
