Dongara Hotel Motel

The fish meals were generous, fresh and tasty, and the service made for a relaxed place to enjoy a beer and a meal. The young staff were friendly and helpful, a real inspiration after the lousy service we’ve had in Perth. I was meeting relatives at the pub and had my elderly parents with me; the staff were very obliging. The toilets were a bit lousy, though it is a bar.

I was having a good time at this pub until my meal arrived cold. The person who took my order knew I was in the public bar but apparently didn’t send the order through there. It cost $47. The bar needs to step up its service. The woman working there still wouldn’t accept that she’d failed at her job. The customer is always right, and this was not good service. 👎

We dropped in on a whim for lunch, but arrived five minutes after lunch had finished at 2pm. One of the wait staff told us grumpily. When we asked whether we could still get coffee and cake, the answer was a sigh and “yes, you can.” The coffee tasted burnt and the cakes weren’t great, so it’ll be a while before we come back. We’ve visited several times over the past years and really enjoyed the food. Shame this time was different.

We’ve been holidaying in Dongara for 20 years, and it feels like locals get served before tourists. Today was the same. There was one line for tourists, while locals walked straight up to the bar and were served immediately. Poppies gives the same kind of service. Come on, guys, you can do better. It’s so obvious when there are 10 people behind us and others go up to the bar and get served right away. And no, we weren’t in a “food only” queue, because we were ordering drinks.
