Steampacket Inn

The rooms are wonderfully quaint, the breakfasts are fabulous, and everything was very clean. I loved the shared sun room and reading room upstairs. The downside was the limited reception access: it was only open in the morning, the front door was locked after 11am, and nobody answered the phone after 3pm on a Friday or got back to me after I left a message.

I loved Echuca when I visited in 2017 and would certainly stay at the Steam Packet Inn again next time I’m in Australia. As a Brit, I’m hoping to visit again soon, with QANTAS 16 hours direct London to Perth. The inn is in a fantastic location and run by lovely people. It’s a bit eccentric but utterly charming, and has proper breakfasts too. The bathrooms are on the small side, though.

A good place for a quick stopover, with a nice room, decent bed and good sheets. The bathroom was nice too, and the little touches like plunger coffee, tea and cookies were appreciated. The one letdown was that the room was sold as having a river view, but I couldn’t see the river.

The cooked breakfast was excellent, with cereals, fruit, OJ, coffee, tea, toast, crumpets and muffins. A lovely way to start the day. The building is 140 years old, right at the entrance to the historic old Port of Echuca. Our cosy room had an ensuite, a very comfortable bed, a small table and chairs, enough elbow room for two people and all our luggage, a large TV and A/C.
