We needed somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights while visiting family, and this place suited us. It wasn't fancy, but the man at reception was incredibly polite and helpful, which was a welcome change after a six hour drive. When we came back after a day out, someone had been in the room and moved our things to make the bed. I understand that's part of the job, but I would've been happy to tell them to leave it alone since I was coming back to sleep in it anyway. It just seemed like extra work for them.

We had no trouble parking our ute and 4 horse float. Reception service was excellent and very helpful. The place is a little dated, but it was clean and comfortable.

The arrival greeting was so friendly, and we'd certainly stay here again. The room was a pleasant surprise: clean as a whistle, with lovely new curtains, handy bedside drawers, and comfy pillows. There was piping hot water and a good shower. For breakfast, I put a few things in the fridge, and there were bowls, cutlery, glasses and cups, plus a toaster and jug. Perfect for a short stay.

The curtains were nice, but the room itself felt grotty, was dated, and needed a proper clean. The bed was uncomfortable too. Check-in was strange: a sign on the reception door said to call a mobile number out back. I called and got a code for an old key box full of different room keys, then was told which room number to take. At checkout, you drop the key in another box. There was nobody at reception, and I never saw anyone. I don't know what you'd do if you had a room issue or noisy guests. I'll never stay here again. Avoid.

Especially if you're working in the area and need room for larger vehicles and trailers, the Gisborne Hotel is worth recommending for a Macedon Ranges getaway. Andrew and his team were outstanding while we were going through a difficult time.
