The Gladstone

Janette and Julia were wonderful to us. Janette checked that the Heron Island ferry was running before we left and called us a cab. Julia and Janette had managed to find us a room for both nights, and Julia got it cleaned and ready right away. I was so relieved and grateful. We’d flown into Gladstone at 7am after waking at 3am for a 5am flight, only to learn our ferry to Heron Island had been cancelled because of the weather. I needed accommodation at the last minute for two nights, so after a quick Google search I chose The Gladstone, which looked lovely and central and had a pool for my kids. I booked and paid through Agoda, then took what felt like the only Uber in Gladstone from the ferry terminal. We waited 30 minutes for it, and when we arrived, the hotel said there was no availability and Agoda shouldn’t have sold me the room. Agoda had already charged me, and I hadn’t budgeted for the stay since we weren’t meant to be in Gladstone. Most hotels and motels were already booked out, and my two kids were exhausted and disappointed. Janette, the manager at reception, was kind and understanding. She called Agoda to sort out the issue and checked with the hotel staff for any rooms. There wasn’t a room available for our second night, so she tried to find us somewhere else. She could see how defeated I was, and even though she had her own job to do, she kept helping. In the end, she worked something out with Julia, the head of housekeeping, and made sure we could stay both nights. The team was mostly women, which was lovely to see. The renovated rooms were very clean and lovely, the restaurant downstairs had beautiful food, and the cafe was great too. Everyone at The Gladstone was so lovely. We had a great stay and I’d highly recommend it. Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who work there!

I was in town for work on Curtis Island, and everything was very accommodating. The rooms and service were great, and Rock Salt Resteraunt was absolutely fantastic, next level even.

My son and I had to change our booking and room a few times, then cancel for certain reasons. Jeanette, the manager, was so kind and understanding about our situation. We’re truly grateful for the professional, caring service and can’t thank her enough. Thank you to everyone at the organisation.

We booked two rooms and both were very clean, with comfortable beds. The quiet setting and full blockout curtains helped us get a reasonable night's sleep. We'd happily stay here again.
