Ambience on Burleigh Beach

The location is great, but the accommodation badly needs refreshing. We paid more than $750 a night during Christmas week for a substandard place. The third bedroom’s air conditioning didn’t work properly, the oven was dirty, one TV was unusable, the lounge chair was saggy and old, and the sheets were too small. There were cockroaches in the bathroom, chipped crockery and stained, chipped benches. The dining chairs were basic metal ones, the washing machine lid was broken, and most power points had no covers, which is a safety concern. There was no colander or kitchen tongs, some cupboards had no handles, and the electric blinds moved in the middle of the night without anyone touching the remote. When I raised some of this with the office, they sent the handyman promptly. He fixed the washing machine lid, but the TV couldn’t be repaired and they couldn’t replace the power point covers. An air conditioning technician came and said that bedroom’s air conditioning had always been problematic. After I complained about the accommodation, the office did give us some free parking.

Easy to get to the beach, shops and walking paths from here. We had a wonderful stay with our two young kids, aged 6 and 3. The apartment was clean, spacious and really nice, and the appliances and facilities all worked well. The kids loved the spa bath. Reception was friendly and explained everything clearly. We had a great time and will definitely come back.

Our holiday was ruined by the horrendous noise from the big construction project right next door, which runs all night. At the weekend, there’s also a bar across the road blasting music. Cockroaches were running around the apartment too. Hotel from hell!

Check whether the Burleigh tram line construction has finished before staying. Until it does, the workers bang away all night and you won’t sleep. Our Ambience room also seemed to have had little, if any, cleaning before we arrived.
