Mummas Hostel Surfers Paradise

I only meant to stay a few days at Mumma’s and ended up there for eight nights. The shared areas had a welcoming vibe, with plenty of space to relax, eat, and enjoy a city view. There were shaded spots, room for bikes, washing lines for wet clothes, and a pool for cooling off. The kitchen was in good shape, with fridge and pantry space. I liked the little extras too, like sunscreen at reception, tea and coffee all day, breakfast each morning, and even a pizza night. The four-person dorm was clean and air conditioned, with big pull-out drawers under the beds and security lockers. Bathrooms could use another one, but they stayed clean and I only had to wait once, for about 15 minutes in the morning. It's easily the best priced place in the area, and well located: six or seven minutes on foot to the tram, then another three or four to central Surfers and the beach. There are a couple more hostels on the same street, and it felt safe walking at night. The staff were brilliant, especially the receptionists, always friendly and ready to help. I'll definitely come back if I'm in the GC again. Thanks!

I suggest reading the reviews before booking Mumma’s Hostel. It seems cheap for a reason. Communication and customer service were poor for me. I arrived after hours following a long journey, but there were no keys or instructions, and no after-hours number to call. I had to find somewhere else to stay at the last minute. Even though I couldn't stay there because their after-hours setup wasn't properly organised, they charged my card for one night's accommodation. The rooms were messy too, and guests have to make their own beds.

The receptionist was rude and didn't even try to help. The booking information hadn't mentioned an age limit or that a passport was the only accepted document. I'm from NSW, but she still wouldn't accept my driver's licence, even though it has a photo. If you want a nice trip, don't make the mistake of booking here.

We stayed in a unit for nearly two weeks and had a great time. The hostel was very clean, the location was excellent and the facilities were just right. The staff and owners were so friendly and accommodating.
