We came back for Christmas with my family after quite a few years away. My parents had a timeshare here, so we already knew the location was excellent. Coolangatta beach is right across the road, Woolworths is next door, and there are plenty of restaurants, conveniences and food options nearby. There’s a cinema close by too, plus a big Timezone for kids. Check-in was easy and the staff were friendly and happy to help. The pool and spa were great. There’s also a half-size tennis court, mini golf and activities run by staff. The ground-floor gym is small, but had everything I needed for a workout. Our apartment on the fifth floor was lovely and very well equipped. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a fold-out sofa bed in the lounge, so six can sleep comfortably. They update the furniture every few years, which is nice as the building is getting older than the ones nearby. The main road was noisy from our apartment, and the lifts were slow and not great. Parking is tight and limited, first come, first served. Still, I’ll definitely be back soon.

Parking was the biggest frustration. We expected a space but didn’t get one, and with first come, first served spots, people were waiting hours to find one. I had to unload and leave my new car, which is usually garaged, several streets away. There are only two lifts as well, so at busy times we waited more than five minutes and sometimes a lift arrived already full. It got annoying, and felt worse than at other places we’ve stayed, though it wasn’t a major issue. We’ve been coming to Coolangatta for about 15 years and have stayed in around six places from Kirra to rainbow bay. This apartment was simple, comfortable and about average for our experience, maybe a little smaller. The price was lower than most, so the value seemed better than many other places. Ours faced north, and I would have preferred a view towards snapper, but the view is a lottery everywhere, so I can’t judge this place too harshly. The north side was also pretty noisy, with cars and drunk people waking us regularly, though that’s not really the resort’s fault. Coolangatta has a lot to offer, and the pool, alfresco areas and BBQs were great. I was surprised there was an in-house cafe bar, and having cocktails around the pool was a plus.

The location by the beach, with ocean views and plenty of walking tracks, made for a relaxing getaway. The room was clean and comfortable, with a nice seaside feel, and check-in was easy. Staff were friendly and helpful. There’s a good range of restaurants, clubs and pubs nearby. I’d definitely recommend the resort for a calm beach break.

The location is great, but I’m extremely disappointed with room 804. We’ve just arrived, and I can’t see how six people are supposed to fit in the lounge with only a two-seater couch and two chairs. The rooms and bathrooms are very small, and there’s no air-conditioning in the bedroom. The ensuite is behind a wardrobe in the main bedroom, and it’s tiny and so hot that after showering you need another shower. I emailed to ask for a corner unit on a high floor, 12, 03 or 1406, because I wanted my 9-year-old mother to have a good view. She has Parkinson’s and we have a wheelchair, but I can’t even get her into the bathroom. I don’t know how we’ll manage a week here. It feels impossible. Maya Albert

It’s a great home-away-from-home setup in an excellent location, with everything you need. The pool is a good size and there’s a great kids’ pool, daily activities and a good cafe/bar. Plenty of restaurants are downstairs, and it’s an easy walk to the mall and Woolies. Can’t wait to return.
