The location and view were great, and the facilities were okay. The pool was nice, though we weren’t sure about its cleanliness, and the sauna was good. Its rules were confusing: the official signs said not to go in alone, but the hotel’s rules said one person at a time. The rooms were another story. My friends and I shared a two-room unit that looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in ages. The sheets were stained, the bathroom floor had someone else’s hair on it, the vents were caked with dust, and the shower curtain looked mouldy with red stains. A sealed toilet card said “for your protection,” but the toilet hadn’t been flushed when I opened it. One room smelled whenever water was used, apparently from the bathroom, and there was an iron mark on the floor. We saw cockroaches, and the balcony sloped down; baby birds were there, though we couldn’t see a nest. One couch was hard, the other was nicer but dirty and smelly. The hair dryer was the nicest thing in the room. There was no housekeeping or fresh towels during our week.

We saw whales breaching, and the warm pool was a nice touch. Staff were friendly, and the rooftop was possibly the best place on the circuit to watch the V8 Supercars, with around 1.5 km of track visible. The beds were comfortable, but the rooms feel dated and tired and need renovation. It’s a great spot, though the facility is aging.

This is where we usually stay on the Goldie. Everything’s easy: the staff are terrific, parking works even for our taller 4WD, and the location is amazing, with the light rail convenient too.

The views, location and parking were amazing, and the woman we dealt with was friendly. But our room was dirty and nothing like the photos on Booking.com. The curtains were broken and dated, the floors and carpets were dirty, and there were bugs crawling on the bathroom towels.

The balcony views over the water were lovely, and the location was the only real positive. The room was advertised with air conditioning but had none. There was no blind on the kitchen window opposite the bed, so morning light woke us and there was no way to block the heat. Hot water lasted only a couple of minutes, barely enough to wash, let alone wash your hair. Two people couldn’t shower one after the other unless the second was happy with cold water.
