Sierra Grand Resort - GCLR

Mantra Sierra Grand is in a perfect location, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I couldn't fault the facilities or convenience, and everything else about the stay was good. But the room's cleanliness was extremely disappointing. I had to give it a full clean myself when we arrived, with crumbs still under the table and dust everywhere. It was one of the worst rooms I've walked into for cleanliness. With proper attention to housekeeping, it would have been an excellent stay.

This holiday was completely ruined. The apartment was filthy and run down, and the advertised ocean view was blocked by buildings from every room. The third bedroom had no windows for light or ventilation as required under QLD building code, and it had no wardrobe or storage, which wasn't suitable for two large teenage boys. There was no king bed as advertised. The WiFi didn't work, despite being supposed to be free with Accor membership. I work remotely, and now have to make other arrangements at extra cost and inconvenience because the internet isn't fit for purpose. I've worked remotely all over the world without ever having this issue. Someone had taken our allocated parking spot, so we were given the furthest space in the building with difficult access. The day after check-in, we were offered another room, but it also had no king bed and no room with the advertised two single beds. So our 14 and 16 year old boys would have to share a bed or one would have to sleep on a rollaway. The other choice was to leave with a refund, but another family was arriving and it was peak holiday season. We pay a hefty fee for Accor membership and are supposed to get a room upgrade if one is available. Are they kidding? The place is completely overpriced. Better apartments in the same block are available directly for less than half what we paid through Accor. This is disgusting and false advertising. I will never stay at a Mantra again or renew my Accor membership.

It all felt icky, and we were so disappointed, especially as this was our first holiday in three years. The apartment was dirty: the laundry floor was sticky, there were sticky dirt spots on the kitchen floor, the utensils and pans were dirty, and there was a toenail on the carpet. The beds only had sheets, with no blankets, bedspreads or doonas. The shower had shampoo and conditioner but no soap. The dryer sounded like a blender while running, the WiFi didn't work in the bedrooms, and traffic outside made the room really noisy. The hotel was lovely and the facilities were excellent, including indoor and outdoor pools and a well-equipped gym. Pacific Fair, the beach, bars and restaurants were all less than a 10-minute walk away. A great stay.
