Springbrook Lyrebird Retreat

A quiet cabin surrounded by nature, with all the comforts of home. I’d happily recommend it and would definitely come back. The hosts were warm and thoughtful, and you can tell they’ve put a lot of care into making the space inviting and comfortable.

The rainforest is glorious, with plants and critters everywhere, and the cabins feel secluded even though they’re only a hundred or so meters from the road. I’d give the location five stars. The cabin itself is a solid four. Bowerbird cabin has an 80s “nuts and berry” feel, a bit dated and care worn, but everything worked fine for self catering. Access takes some thought. We followed GPS along narrow Lyrebird Ridge Road, though Repeater Station Road probably makes for easier driving. The path from the parking area is short but fairly steep, and inside there are steps and a large spar to negotiate, so it may be difficult for people with limited mobility. Mobile phone and WiFi access are very limited. If you need to call the caretaker, you may have to walk around outside by reception. Also, during the off season there aren’t many cafe or dining options on the plateau, so consider bringing supplies.

So many birds and such a great spot. It felt like a slice of paradise, and the accommodation was lovely with everything we needed.

The birdlife is amazing, from the morning chorus to unexpected visits from King parrots and superb fairy wrens. Set in the rainforest, the place has clean air and feels like forest bathing from the moment you arrive. It’s quiet and private, just right for recovering from the rigours of city life. If privacy is what you’re after, you won’t be disappointed.
