Cabin 8 is our pick. We had a great getaway with gorgeous water views, and it’s lovely that fur babies are welcome. There’s plenty to see and do around the beautiful area, with a local pool, a fun playground and lots of gorgeous pelicans. Pelican Rocks cafe is close by for delicious food and coffee. We used to visit often when our kids were little, and they had just as much fun this time as teenagers.

The peaceful setting was wonderful, and my partner, little dog Coco and I really enjoyed our stay. We were in the first two bedroom cabin opposite the water, and the staff were friendly and accommodating at checkout. I was in the area recently and saw the renovations and had a look through the second waterfront cabin. It’s a little bigger than the one we stayed in, so I’d pick that one next time. I’ll definitely be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

With nowhere else to go so late, we ended up returning to the same place around 12:30am so our children could sleep. It was a stressful, upsetting situation that could have been avoided if it had been handled properly. We’d arrived at about 8pm after a three-hour drive with two kids under two, and were met with a strong unpleasant smell, wasps indoors, and windows without fly screens or security screens. That felt unsafe with little ones. I’d requested a cot before we arrived, but it wasn’t there. I tried several times to reach reception. When someone finally answered, they spoke to me dismissively and unprofessionally. I explained I was stranded late at night with two exhausted, crying children and needed safe accommodation. Instead of helping, I was told a refund could only be discussed later. Vicky was especially rude and unhelpful, and communicated very poorly. The unsafe conditions, missing item and awful service made this one of my worst accommodation experiences. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for families.

I stayed here for a while a year ago and still remember how lovely it was. I miss it and can’t wait to return for a quiet retreat. The town is peaceful, with friendly older locals, nice fishing spots, a BBQ available, and halal-friendly options.

We’d booked and paid for their “Glamping Safari Tent,” but when we arrived there was no reception office, staff or, apparently, any other guests. Signs pointed us to a QR code and phone number. The QR code opened a website that seemed to show a park, but not the one we were at. It looked much nicer than South Coast Retreat. The recorded phone message offered different numbers, but none were answered no matter which one I pressed. Stay away, it’s a dump.
