The locals and bar staff kept the pub lively with friendly banter, which made the stay especially good. I picked the Criterion after finding no room at the pub down the road and the motel between was closed. I hadn’t called ahead to any of the places I’d seen online while in Griffith, so it was a bit of a gamble. My upstairs room felt new, clean and modern, with really nice furnishings and a lovely bathroom. The upstairs space looks great for a function too. Dinner was my usual chicken schnitzel with salad and mash, and it was just fine. There was also a big screen in front of me for the cricket. I made a quick trip down to the silos to photograph them lit up at night. Thanks for a great stay.

We had a nice stay, and the air conditioning worked great. Breakfast on the balcony in the morning, looking out at the historic buildings, was a lovely bonus. Getting our luggage up two flights of stairs would’ve been hard if a younger male patron hadn’t kindly offered an older woman a hand. Thank you to him. Our only suggestion is that the bed in Room 1 could use a comfortable queen size mattress.

A $15 steak sandwich, what a bloody ripper! I spotted the cleverly written lunch specials out front, came in, and went back afterward to compliment the kitchen. This is a proper pub with local ties and local customers. The waitstaff were lovely too. Happy days all round.

I picked a table outside, where there was plenty of space and everything was spotless and well set up. Inside looked clean and inviting too. The staff were really friendly and helpful. My Wednesday special was pork spare ribs with corn, slaw and chips, and it was absolutely beautiful, full of flavour and so tender it melted in my mouth. The lemon, lime and bitters was perfectly made, with not much ice, just as I like it. Highly recommended.

They run fun things like meat raffles, including on Fridays. The food is perfectly serviceable, though nothing amazing. For tourists or locals, this pub ticks all the boxes and is the best one in town.
