It’s an affordable place, and I’d happily stay again. The accommodation was clean, cosy and comfortable despite its older style, and the young man who checked us in was polite and helpful. He even offered us a welcome drink. Mountainview motel is about a five-minute drive from the centre of Halls Gap, in a bush setting with a swimming pool and BBQ facilities. The one thing that needed attention was the BBQ, which needed cleaning.

The beds and bathroom were clean, and the beds were comfortable. It’s a friendly place in a great, quiet spot among the bushland, and at this price I really have no complaints. The hotel has a retro feel, with the rooms connected in one long row. They look much as they might have in the 70s, though they’ve been well maintained.

The bedding left me with severe allergic reactions and was itchy. There was dirt on all the sheets, mud on the blanket, and even a spider in the sheets. It really looked as though the bedding wasn’t being washed. The bathroom was dirty too, and light kept streaming into the room until 1:15am. There was no staff at check-in or check-out. Keys and personal details, including full names and home addresses, were left at reception alongside the room keys.

We really liked our lodge. It was quiet and close to Halls Gap, with lots of shared space, including couches and a dining table. The bathroom was spacious and had a washing machine. The air conditioner worked, which helped us cool the place down and warm it up, since the weather was crazy.

Really tidy, clean and comfortable deluxe accommodation, with everything we could want. It was quiet too. If you’re awake at dawn, there may be wildlife almost right outside.
