BreakFree Great Sandy Straits

The Marina’s right there if you want to explore Fraser Island K’gari or take a sunset cruise, and restaurants, the cinema and beachfront are all easy to get to. Staff at BreakFree Great Sandy Straits looked after everything we needed. As Accor members, we also enjoyed a friendly get together with other guests.

I’ve been an Accor Plus member for 18 years, but the state of this place and the response to my complaint ended that. Accor essentially ignored me, so I cancelled my membership. BreakFree Sandy Straits should be dropped from Accor’s stable. Shame, Accor. We stayed with family in July 2025, and the construction signs on the next apartment were an early hint of trouble. We asked to move straight away but were told no other rooms were available. They gave us a $50 meal voucher for the inconvenience. Inside, the apartment was appalling: cracked tiles, a deteriorating ceiling that created a lot of dust, badly worn furniture that looked like it came from a council clean up (check the lounge photos), bathroom surfaces peeling apart, and appliances of odd sizes that got in the way in the hallways. The beds had polar fleece blankets that basically never get washed. There was also a strange little mezzanine with a too-small staircase, and worn paint and finishes throughout. The tennis court was in awful condition too, as the photos show. After a day there, we also got the impression that many units were permanently rented to single mothers or older people, judging by washing hung across balconies.

Edit: I’ve emailed three times already and still haven’t heard back. I sent another email with a screenshot of the latest order they placed using your resort as the shipping address. Since they keep doing it, I assume the packages are reaching them. The screenshot also shows their billing address. I’m in the States and can’t investigate further. This business, JT Foody to be exact, keeps placing online orders with my personal information. I’ve contacted them several times and they refuse to stop. Please stop. I’m in the U.S., what are you gaining from this?

We loved watching the boats come and go from our balcony, and the two bedroom unit had lovely views over the marina entrance. The beds were really comfortable. There were some room problems, though: the main bedroom window was missing its clasp, and the shower went from skin-scalding hot to barely warm with even a tiny bit of cold water. The hand towel rail was barely attached to the wall. Worse, a spill was still on the kitchen drawers, there were lemon seeds on the windowsill, and the cupboards smelled odd. On our first afternoon the neighbours had loud, out of tune karaoke, and their visitor blocked our carport.
