Hobart Waterfront Apartments

The front desk lady was lovely and helpful, and the rooms were clean and tidy, so most of the stay was great. There were some odd noises overnight, though, and then, before checkout time in the morning, two hotel workers barged into our room while my partner was getting changed in the other room and I was showering. They apologized and left, but gave no explanation for entering. It was unnerving, since we still had every right to be there.

The rooms are older but clean and neat, and fine for a night's rest. The kitchenettes are basic, with a kettle, microwave and mini-fridge. You can hear neighbours walking, using the lifts and shutting doors, so the soundproofing needs work. The location is amazing, within walking distance of the Harbour, cafes, restaurants and pubs.

We'd definitely stay again. The rooms are large, quiet, clean, air conditioned and serviced. The bathroom's a little dated but works fine, and the old colonial-style exterior walls are thick, with deep window sills. On Friday night, people leaving the pub across the road can be noisy, but it doesn't last long. It's a great spot if you don't want to hire a car: Salamanca and its markets, art, restaurants and pubs are an easy walk away. There's also a restaurant and pub across the road, the ferry to MONA is less than a block away, and the waterfront, information centre, tour pickups and Skybus/redbus stop at Brooke St Pier are all close by.

The rooms are fine and spacious, but don't use the parking. It's a tiny garage lined with garbage bins, and they gave me a space I couldn't get into even with a smallish car. I ended up with $2,000 damage to the rear side panels. Park on the street, whatever it costs.
