Wavecrest Village & Tourist Park

Wavecrest is about 4kms from Hopetoun, so you’ll need to drive or take an e-bike into town. The sites are spacious and gravel, with shade on about half of them. The pool was closed for the first two days of our stay, though we did get a swim on the morning we left. The pool area was messy, with bird poo on the paving and chairs. The bathroom facilities are worn and need maintenance. There are three shower cubicles for each group, but the hot water flow drops if someone else turns theirs on. The drains don’t slope properly either, so water spreads across the floor outside the showers. That was tricky with young kids. There’s only one women’s toilet, alongside one accessible toilet and three men’s toilets. We found it easier to walk over to the pool area and use the shower in the accessible toilet.

Spacious, flat sites, and it was quiet. The kids loved being right next to the playground, and we had a great time at the pool, even with motorbike frogs swimming in it. The on-site bistro made a good pizza. Showers are basic, but the water was hot. It’s a short drive into town, and the price was affordable. What more could you ask for?

We were pleasantly surprised by the bistro. The food was top tier, from the buffalo wings and Parma to the kids’ meals and steak sandwiches. The staff were lovely too. The camping ground had all the necessities.

Having a washing machine, a big undercover clothesline, and a covered carport was a real bonus. It felt like a fantastic home away from home. I wish other towns had this kind of accommodation at the same price 😁.
