The motel’s old-fashioned decor was cute and added to its charm. The location was excellent for our Melbourne to Adelaide road trip, with a good park across the road and pubs and takeaway places within walking distance. It’s on a main road, but we didn’t find it noisy. The staff were friendly, and the room was excellent, though the two deluxe family rooms our family booked weren’t alike. We had #36, with a kitchen sink, cutlery, bowls and plates, a spa bath, and a separate bedroom with three single beds. My in-laws had #8, where all the beds were in one room and, I think, there was no sink, cutlery, crockery or spa bath. If those things matter to you, I’d suggest requesting a room number if possible. We’d love to stay here again. The bed was comfortable, the shower and bath were good, and the make-up remover towel was handy since I usually bring one to avoid staining white face washers. The shaving foam in the dispenser was a fun surprise. The toilet was noisy, and we noticed some carpet stains and minor maintenance issues, but the room was very clean for its age and none of that affected our stay. The pool’s hot water wasn’t working that day, which was a shame in the cold weather, but we could still use the spa, which was relaxing after a long drive.

The kids had a great time in the pool, which was just right after a long drive. Our room was spacious, very clean and well equipped. We were pleased with our motel choice and would come back.

A car breakdown on the way back to Melbourne left us needing somewhere to stay, and the tow company suggested Golden Grain Motor Inn. The owner kindly booked us in after hours and waited for us to arrive. Our clean room had a kettle, toaster and microwave, and the bed was comfortable. He also let me stay longer the next day while I sorted out insurance, and assured me I could book another night if I needed to. That took away a lot of worry.

The manager was very helpful, thank you. The room itself was fine, but we had a very noisy night. Some people staying long term, road traffic controllers, seemed to treat the motel as their own place, playing music and having loud conversations until almost midnight. Even if their company pays the motel well, I think they should be considerate of other guests. If we book here again, we’ll ask how many permanent guests are staying.

Our favourite stopover in Horsham! The kids loved the heated indoor pool and spa, and that traditional ‘brekky through the hole’ in the morning was the best before hitting the road. The room was very clean and well kept, the bed was comfy, and the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. A clean, comfortable and convenient place to stay.
