The Manjmukmuk Restaurant was a highlight, with sensational dinner, great local flavours, a lovely wine list and welcoming, attentive staff. We also enjoyed browsing the beautiful Indigenous art gallery onsite. The Croc is a great central base for Ubirr, Cahills Crossing and Arnhem Land. Our room was spacious and clean, and the air conditioning was already running when we arrived, which was a lifesaver in the Top End heat. The beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. We liked the central courtyard layout, too, and could head straight out to the shaded pool for a refreshing swim after a long hike. The hotel’s unusual shape, like a massive crocodile, never got old, and the hospitality made the stay.
The staff were friendly and especially helpful with wet season road updates and closures. I found the location convenient too, within walking distance of the fuel station, Arts and Culture Centre and local supermarket. There’s art around the property that guests can view or buy. I really enjoyed the restaurant. Dinner was delicious, especially the crocodile dish, amazing pizza and fresh leafy salad. Breakfast was great as well, and I liked having a juicer in the buffet. The pool was relaxing, with a covered section that was comfortable even in the daytime. Water lilies in the courtyard made it lovely to wander through, and outside, fragrant frangipani trees and what I think might have been jasmine bushes added a nice scent. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the coffee pod machine in the room. I had a very enjoyable, relaxing and memorable stay at Mercure Kakadu.
The rooms were comfortable and everything seemed to work. The location is handy, but there aren’t many places to eat in Jabiru, and the restaurant let us down. One evening’s “special” pasta looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour, so it didn’t feel special. The next evening we tried the burgers, thinking they couldn’t go wrong, but they were lukewarm at best. Do yourself a favour and go to Cooinda Resort, 30 minutes further south. Does time even matter in the NT? The accommodation, food and surroundings were much better there.
The evening manager was terrific, and the backpacker staff were friendly and helpful. The day duty supervisor/manager was the exception. Rooms are spacious but could use an upgrade. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, and the buffet breakfast had a good variety.
We stayed a night to visit Kakadu Park and the other great natural attractions nearby. The hotel was extremely comfortable and the kitchen excellent. There’s also a wonderful display of recent Aboriginal art on the premises. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
