The frogs in the toilet were apparently connected to Karijini Eco Retreat’s wastewater system, and the Operations Manager treated the problem by pouring Javex into the toilet tank. The manager, Tyler Davie of Karijini Eco Retreat, also said the bathroom wear shown in the photos was normal for older facilities in the outback. He explained that a low-season letter sent after booking covered the summer heat and temporary restaurant closure. Their cancellation policy meant our early departure would still be charged in full, so our refund request for the unused second night was refused. We were told to travel safely, and we will, just not by staying at your crummy place. We arrived to three frogs in the toilet, dirty shower and toilets, and unbearable heat in the room. There was no on-site dining, which we only learned about after booking and paying 300 AUD per night. Had we known, we wouldn’t have booked there. These conditions weren’t acceptable to us. We agreed to pay for one night and asked for a refund for the second, since we were leaving, but the request was denied.

Our first campsite wasn’t working out, so late in the day we took a chance on Eco Lodge. Simone welcomed us so warmly, and we were really glad there was room for us. We’ll definitely come back :)

The setting is stunning, the staff are always ready to help, and dinner was one of the best meals we had in three weeks in Australia. The tent itself was lovely and well equipped, but without aircon it became extremely hot as temperatures climbed to 41 degrees. We really should have known better and booked an aircon tent. The heat ended up taking over what could have been an unforgettable stay, though that wasn’t anything Karijini Eco Retreat could control. Thanks for the brief time we had there.

I’ve stayed at the Eco Retreat before and loved the location, tents, and restaurant, though it was closed this time for the low season. What made this visit so much better was Angela. She was the manager on duty this week and spent ages chatting with my mum and me about anything and everything, including life at the Eco Retreat with her husband. She also shared great stories about past events in Karijini, like the rain in December '24, and showed us brilliant photos and videos. Ange’s love for the national park and her kind nature rubbed off on us. She made our stay really special, and seems to do everything to keep the place running while always wearing a big smile. Mum and I haven’t stopped talking about her. Ange, we hope you’re there when we visit again, and that you know how fondly we remember and appreciate you. - Remi (and Claire) ☀️

The food was really good, and the bar staff were so friendly. We spent a couple of nights in our rooftop tent, and the receptionist was very helpful too. It was my second visit. Couldn’t recommend it more.
