Southern Lights Hotel

Everything in our room was in good working order and it was very clean, unlike places we've stayed before with faulty light switches, lifting carpet or taps falling off. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant had good food and service too. We're looking forward to stopping here again soon.

It's a quiet spot with plenty of parking. Our room is clean and well equipped, with a comfortable king bed, wardrobe and hangers, drawers, kitchenette, fridge/freezer, microwave, table and two chairs, plus an iron and board. The ensuite is roomy, with hooks behind the door and a large cabinet under the basin for our things. We were sorry the restaurant was closed, though it was due to unforeseen circumstances, and hope that gets sorted soon. A few lights along the paths to the units would be welcome.

With kids along, the meal taking two hours was just too long. The food and dessert both took ages, and the main course was pretty bland and unexciting for the price, even though the portion was a good size. Ordering was awkward too: the waitress brought colouring pencils and paper for the kids, which was great, but asked if we were ready to order before we'd finished sitting down. She checked again two or three minutes later, then we waited more than 15 minutes. A check-in after about five minutes seems more usual and effective.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and they made me a good quality vegan meal. Dessert was just sliced banana and orange, so it lacked presentation and creativity, but at least the fruit was fresh.
