The lake is gorgeous and peaceful, with lots of easy walks through bushland, snow, and along the beach. Our basic cabin was a short stroll from the water and close to other cabins, but still felt private. We slept well, too. Winter was the hard part. The cabin stayed cold even with the heater running, and the shower kept cycling between freezing cold for five minutes and hot for about 30 seconds. The water pressure was terrible. After a day of walking, the restaurant’s tiny portions didn’t satisfy us. It’s a beautiful room and the staff are lovely, but $50 for a small steak and two green vegetables felt like poor value. With hiking as the main activity, they should rethink the food offering or have a general store with ready-packed options. I’d come back, but I’d stock up on food first.

The gift shop inside was amazing. I bought a lovely leather-bound book, and dinner was great too. A very helpful, polite man with black curly hair looked after us, though I didn’t catch his name. Sorry for the discrimination 😘. The food was amazing, and the facilities were good, including the information centre and bar/restaurant. We stayed in our caravan in the national park. It’s a very pretty spot, with beautiful single-studio cabins and a walking track down to the beach. Thank you.

We were hoping for a much better lunch, so leaving just two stars feels disappointing. We rarely give low ratings. The coffee was good, though the Baileys might have helped. The service felt awkward and unhelpful without anyone actually being rude. Even getting a coffee with a splash of Baileys took several minutes of explanation. Our food was a letdown: both burgers were dry and ordinary, and the chips were nearly black yet soggy, like they’d been sitting in water. The pizzas were advertised with handmade bases, but the bases weren’t good and didn’t seem handmade. We ordered two pizzas, a chicken burger, and the house burger. It’s a shame the meal didn’t live up to what we’d expected.

We had a delicious meal at the restaurant, compliments to the chef. The staff at both the restaurant and tavern were lovely and gave us excellent service. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, with a lovely deck facing the lake. We had a really nice stay at Lake St Clair Lodge and would love to return.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. The water pressure at our powered site was almost nonexistent, and the dump point seems to have been out of service for a long time. The check-in leaflet directs you to Hamilton for a dump point, even though there are ones only minutes away at Derwent Bridge and Bronte Park. The manager also made a fuss about giving change for the washing machines. Just ridiculous.
