The Central Hotel Motel Lakes Entrance

The food is good, and it's a popular place because it's a proper pub. The nearest other proper pub is way up the hill. Prices aren't great, and the rules about not being able to get bar meals feel random. I'd like the food to be available in the bar, since bistros feel like school cafeterias. There's a discounted schooner in the afternoons, at least, but no proper happy hour.

The advertised seafood plate on the specials board cost $50 and was the most expensive meal there. It was listed with prawns, Whiting tails, gummy shark and crumbed Scollops, but what arrived was extremely disappointing. There were five prawns, all tiny, averaging no more than 25mm, and the crumbed whiting tails were tiny too. They were so small you wouldn't use them for bait. Charging top dollar for this feels like exploiting tourists, with no concern for repeat business because tourists aren't locals. Very bad value. Stay away from this pub. I'd give it no stars if I could.

The staff who brought the dishes out were really professional, and the food was hot, tasty and very good. It was my first visit, on friends' recommendation. I'd definitely recommend Central Hotel for a feed.

The room was clean and fine for the price, and the location is almost perfect. But the advertised “Free WiFi” is basically a lie, and a real no-go. The passcodes only give you 50MB of traffic, and the connection isn't stable. That's like saying parking is free for all guests when there are only two parking spots.
