The only real positives were the location and the view. We booked apartment 7 at 96 on Arthur in February 2019 and found it dusty, with careless cleaning and a generally stingy feel. There wasn’t even salt or pepper in the kitchen. The huge sofa had no cushions, and the bare living room walls had no pictures or decorations. That’s a new level of minimalism. I reported the dirty bathroom, including a long black hair in the bath, and the dusty surfaces in both the bathroom and living room. They gave me a bottle of wine, but nobody cleaned the flat. The property is managed by the Launceston Mercure Hotel, and I’d expected better from them, even for an unbranded serviced apartment block.

It was freezing, and neither the room heater nor the bathroom heater worked. We spent an hour trying the room heater before calling reception. A young woman came promptly, said it was fixed, and told us to let it warm up. After another hour it was still only blowing cold air. At 7.30 pm they offered to move us, but my husband was exhausted and annoyed, so we accepted the refund offer instead. For all that inconvenience, we were offered just $20. I’d seen a review from a woman named Jane three months earlier saying the two heaters didn’t work, so it’s pretty poor that Mercure hadn’t fixed them. I don’t need fancy accommodation, but no heating is really bad form. We’re leaving tomorrow, so I doubt anything will be done before then. Be careful about booking in colder months. A good start to our Tassie adventure, thanks Mercure... NOT! The price was good and it’s reasonably close to the city centre.

We stayed for five nights from July into August 2019, and the place was a mess. There was food on the microwave plate, my baby pulled a cigarette packet out from under the couch, and a cupboard was full of food left by previous guests. The dust was awful, especially if you have allergies. They also painted the car space that was meant to be ours, so we couldn’t park there and had to use that awful hill instead.

A really central place and good to stay in. The fridge had most of its shelves and door stays missing, though, so storing bottles and things was difficult. Maybe someone should call an appliance parts centre.

The location is convenient, close to everything, but the place needs quite a bit of maintenance.
