Quality Hotel Colonial Launceston

The new-section room was wonderful for the price, and getting around was easy with plenty of parking and most of the city centre a comfortable walk away. The staff were welcoming, attentive and helpful. Beautiful hotel, would happily come back.

Parking was easy and the location worked well during our three-night stay. Rest was another matter: we could hear conversations and noise because the soundproofing is poor, and guests leave at all sorts of times. The mattress and pillows felt old and lumpy, and were very uncomfortable. The rooms, especially the bathroom, clearly need renovation. The comfort didn't meet expectations, so if a good night's sleep is what you're after, this may not be the place.

The building is amazing, but the hotel itself feels badly neglected. Our room was musty and noisy, with very dark lighting. There was no airflow in the room or shower, so we had to open the window for fresh air. The carpet looked clean, but the curtains and chairs smelled. The bed was very uncomfortable, though thankfully the sheets looked and felt clean. The toilet was awkwardly positioned in front of the basin, very low, and the seat wobbled. Dinner was horrible to look at and taste. The chicken was very dry, and the sweet and sour was mostly batter with hardly any protein. Parking was poor too, and we felt lucky to get a decent space. This needs a major upgrade. I wouldn't recommend it or come back.

It's very close to the town centre, with nice cafés, bars and restaurants nearby. We were on the ground floor, though, looking out at the car park. Car alarms went off in the middle of the night, and we heard suitcases being dragged down the stairs. There's no lift for the upper floors. The place felt more like a dated motel. Our rooms were musty, and one had a strong cigarette smell. The old carpets and armchair need replacing. At least the beds were soft, comfortable and clean, and the towels were fluffy, white and clean. They also forgot to make up our room one day, which was disappointing.
