We had to leave Bonnie Doon because of the fires and came to Mansfield for a couple of nights. Craig was incredibly kind and understanding at a stressful time, and nothing was too much trouble. The place has a welcoming, homely feel, with spacious, comfortable, tidy rooms and lovely grounds, a pool, and a kids’ playground. Craig helped make a difficult time a little easier for my family. A great place to stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

4/10
The beds were comfortable and the sheets clean, and the location was good with friendly service. But our unit didn’t come close to 4 star, mainly because it seemed poorly maintained. Some fly screens were damaged or missing, there were cobwebs on the screens and windows, and paint from a rough job was on the carpet. The chopping boards were filthy, kitchen utensils were worn or missing, and there was black mould in the shower. We paid the same price for an immaculate new 4 bedroom house on Mornington Peninsula, so this felt overpriced.

The room was impressively spacious and very clean, with a kitchenette too. Reception staff were really friendly.

We booked at 8pm after we couldn’t get up the mountain, and were so relieved to find a warm room and plenty of hot water. Craig was very helpful, telling us where we could get food so late, and even dropped us at the BP to catch the bus in the morning. We really appreciated the hospitality and would absolutely recommend it to travellers.

A great base for exploring the tracks by 4WD, from Sheepyard Flat up to Craig’s Hut and plenty of other routes. It’s also a fun place for families and groups to unwind, with all sorts of sports and games, a swim, or time by the fire.
