The van worked really well for me travelling solo. It felt modern and had a microwave, fridge, reasonably large TV, good air conditioning, and a kitchenette with its own sink. The shower was always hot with plenty of pressure. Sheets and towels were professionally laundered. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery, plus tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. Bring your own facial tissues, though, as they aren’t supplied. I was told the vans are serviced once halfway through a stay of at least a week, and not at all for shorter stays. I could manage without service by taking rubbish to one of the many wheelie bins each night and washing the towels at the on-site laundromat while I waited for my service. That could be a deal breaker for some. They also gave me a key to the on-site kitchen, but I didn’t use it since the microwave in my kitchenette was enough for my needs. It’s a five-minute, 3.5 km drive to Maryborough’s central business area, with a mall containing Coles and Big W, and Woolworths and Aldi in separate buildings. I especially enjoyed Queens Park in the town centre at dusk, by the peaceful Mary River. I don’t know what the service rules are for the motel rooms.

Near the end of my big lap, I got a call saying my brother had been admitted to hospital in a bad way. I arrived at the Ned Kelly Motel looking for a reasonable room for one and hit the jackpot. The room was great, the bed was great, the shower was perfect, and there was undercover parking for my bike. I stayed a couple of nights to visit my brother and had no problems at all. It was quiet and comfortable, about 25 minutes from Harvey Bay. The hospitality was great too, and I’ll definitely be back.

I come here quite often and have never been disappointed. The rooms have what you need for an overnight stay, including towels, soap and shampoo, with clean bedding. There’s also a kids play centre on the same turf. The staff are always friendly and easy to get along with. This place is awesome!

We stayed two nights in Queen Motel room 23. My husband and I both woke on the final morning with at least 30-35 bites each, which we assume were bed bug bites. We hadn’t had them before staying here. The room was noisy, and the walls were thin enough that we could hear the neighbour using the toilet. There was a microwave, but only one teaspoon for cutlery, which wasn’t much use for the precooked meals we’d brought from home. The top of the microwave was dirty, with a tray covering spilled sugar, and the bathroom light fitting was absolutely filthy. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Aushail Team, thank you for the great service. The onsite worker was a really cool bloke, good to chat with, and the Office Lady was lovely and easy to get along with. A great place to stay.
