Res Deakin has felt like home away from home. The staff are supportive and always ready to help, and there are fun events almost every week. They made it easy to meet people, make great friends and build unforgettable memories. Living here has helped me grow socially and personally. It’s also so convenient being minutes from uni on foot. With all the events and outings, I’ve explored so much of Melbourne. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to call home! 💗

I liked the studio itself, but the walls are extremely thin. The people next door often screamed and banged doors late at night and early in the morning, with no respect for the noise curfew. The staff were rude and extremely unhelpful, to the point that I was surprised. They made me feel like I owed them money or had been rude to them. When I spoke to a woman about a room issue, she seemed annoyed the whole time, making annoyed noises and faces. They’re quite nice when you first arrive, but at checkout they’ll definitely try their best to charge you extra :) If you don’t want to help students with their needs, why are you here? Just pick somewhere else.

Res was incredibly expensive and not worth it at all. There are much better, cheaper options. Do not live here. My roommates were inconsiderate and careless about hygiene. I complained to staff several times; they said they’d talk to them, but nothing changed. I ended up cleaning after them so we wouldn’t get a breach or cleaning fee, even though we kept getting emails threatening those penalties over the state of the house. One roommate smoked grass indoors repeatedly. Another roommate and I alerted security, but nothing happened and it continued. The same unhygienic roommates often stayed up until 3-4 am with friends, despite the thin walls and noise curfew. I couldn’t get a good night’s sleep. I tried talking with them in person, sent private messages, and had three house meetings. Staff were my last resort and were absolutely useless. There were loud thumping pipes in my walls several times a day, the house was always dirty, some stove tops didn’t work, and the bathrooms had severe mould. My food and cosmetics were stolen from shared spaces many times too. The parcel process was frustrating. Sometimes two or three days passed before staff even emailed to say a delivery was ready to collect, so paying for express shipping felt pointless. The older women at reception were also incredibly rude and unprofessional for no reason.

WORST!!!! The rooms are small, the amenities are poor, and it feels like a money crunching machine. The staff misbehaved and ruined my experience in Australia as a newcomer. Special mention to the campus life officer, who made it the shittiest experience of my life. Thanks for being so unwelcoming to international students. Never choose Deakin res for your stay. THE WORST EXPERIENCE!!!!!
